Hi there, Tim.

I saw your great program, and I was wondering to myself: Can it get any greater than this?

The answer is: yes it can, by adding some network support, maybe by adding an option to the program.

The option, if enabled, would open the mement.notes file for reading once a minute, then close it again so other instances (on other computers) could write to it. A simple (but not perfect) solution, that would open for great uses for Memento.

Well, to make a long story short, Great Program you made, can you say when (if ever) we will see a new version?

I'm hoping to do a new version soon, but I'm in the middle of various things, including buying a house, which seem to take up most of my time.

The network option is interesting, but not nearly as simple to implement as you think (your simple scheme would result in frequent data loss).

I have a couple of other ideas too, but I'd rather keep them to myself until I actually implement them. Don't bother asking for alarms, because I already know that's everyone's number 1 feature request :-)

Sounds great, Tim.

I can see my sceme causing data loss, if 2 people were writing 2 different notes on 2 different computers, in the same memento.notes-file at the same time, but if you're using 2 or 3 computers, I wouldn't be that frequent. (i know I could live with it) It could even just be one of those "undocumented features" that never really is mentioned :)

But, of course, if you have another sceme you're working on, please do that instead, stability is always a good thing :)

Good luck with the house btw.

Actually I have a similar problem. I launch Memento automatically during startup. But as I launch a Terminalserver client (we frequently use terminalclient at work), Memento launches a second time (on another machine) both instances pointing to the same memento.notes. Last one I close always win, so I loose data. sigh.

Possible solutions:

- a warning is display when starting number 2

- only one has write permission.

- only one is allowed to start

- memento.notes is used live (but this is then another type of application :) )

Btw. Great program IMHO.

Memento is awesome . . . thanks for the hard work you have done on this. Please do not add too much though - it is fine the way it is. Hopefully it does not get bloated.

Thanks again
