Starting yesterday (08/13/04) I got a pop up from Momento marked "Memento problem..." and in the box is says:
A problem occurred when saving the notes to disk. Any changes you have made will be lost.
Why is that? Is it some sort of bug? I have been using memento for a few months now and love it and was wondering if there was some way to fix the problem.

That means that Memento cannot either open the notes file for writing, or cannot save the notes to the file.
This could be because some other program has the file open (unlikely), the file is read-only, or there is not enough disc space available to write the notes to disk.
The file containing your notes is in 'My Documents', and is called 'Memento.notes'. I'd recommend taking a backup of that file now, and then rebooting your PC to see if that fixes the problem (NB. take the backup *before* you reboot your PC).
If it still goes wrong, then I could send you a version of Memento that will report more detail about what is going wrong.
