Upgraded winxp to latest service pack, now latest version can't read my note file. What are my options?

It sounds like you've been bitten by the Windows Update feature that forces a reboot without shutting things down cleanly (e.g. if you've got a file open in Notepad etc, but haven't saved it, well Windows Update doesn't care - it will trash that data for you).
This occasionally causes Memento's notes file to be corrupted. I've been trying to track this down/reproduce it, but it's pretty hard so far, so I've been unable to fix it in a way that I actually know it's been fixed.
Your options are:
(a) Restore your notes file (My Documents/Memento.notes) from your most recent backup.
(b) See (a).
