got a pop up from Momento marked "Memento problem..." and in the box is says:

A problem occurred when saving the notes to disk. Any changes you have made will be lost.

Why is that? Is it some sort of bug? I have been using memento for a few months now and love it and was wondering if there was some way to fix the problem.

Can You Help Me Pls

Firstly, do NOT quit Memento!

It's possible you have run out of disk space. Did the error message tell you any details about what went wrong?

Assuming you haven't quit Memento since it happened (in which case you *may* have lost your notes), try making sure you have sufficient disk space on the drive with your 'My Documents' folder on it. You will only need a few hundred at most, usually, for Memento notes.

Then right click the Memento icon and choose 'Save Now'. If you don't see an error message, then the save was successful.

Of course, it stands to reason that you should MAKE REGULAR BACKUPS of data you don't want to lose. If your hard drive dies tomorrow (it's happened to me - twice) then you will lose ALL your data, not just Memento notes! (If in future you want to backup your Memento notes, then they are in the file called 'Memento.notes' in your 'My Documents' folder).

Basically the error means that Memento tried to save your notes to disk, but it could not. The most likely cause for this is lack of disk space. It may have been a temporary problem, and Memento may already have saved the notes to disc since the problem occured.

Also, if you have not upgraded to the latest version (version 1.12) I strongly recommend that you do, especially if you are running version 1.09 or earlier. Again, do this only *after* you have resolved this problem with saving.

Good luck.

Sorry, by 'a few hundred', I mean 'a few hundred kilobytes' of disc space.

Well, job #1 would be to take a backup copy of your notes file now (Memento.notes) before you do anything else.

Next, make sure that the Memento.notes file is not read-only.

You can also check to see if another program is accessing the notes file - this may prevent Memento from being able to save from it. To find this out, you can use the 'Who Lock Me' explorer extension, which you can download here:

http://www.dr-hoiby.com/WhoLockMe/

If the file is not read-only, and no other programs have locked the file, then I can try to build a debug version of Memento for you to show more detail about what exactly is going wrong.

How strange. I'll see if I can get around to making a debug version of Memento for you so it can report the error it's encountering in more detail. I won't be able to do this right now though, as I'm quite busy at the moment. I'll let you know when I have a test version ready.
