You are correct - Memento disables GDS support when it detects that it is running in standalone mode, for various reasons.
The main reason is that it has to register a file type with Windows for the GDS links to work, and you don't want to do that when your EXE is on a removable drive like a USB flash drive.
I should have put that in the documentation - sorry.
